Decatur elementary students received a special visitor this week.

Georgia First Lady Sandra Deal read to first grade students at Glennwood Elementary on Tuesday and also read to Oakhurst Elementary students on Monday, according to a school system spokesperson.

Mrs. Deal, a former teacher, frequently travels to local schools to read to students and launched the state’s “Read Across Georgia” initiative. The initiative supports “Gov. Nathan Deal’s goal of increasing the percentage of children reading at grade level by the completion of third grade.”

Glennwood Elementary sent these photos of Mrs. Deal’s visit in its parent newsletter.
