Dear Decaturish – Winnona Park Elementary third graders have concerns about the environment

Back in November, Winnona Park third grade teacher Kate Woodbridge sent an email to Decaturish.

“Third graders at Winnona Park have been studying environmental issues, rocks, soils, and fossils through field studies at Panola Mountain and research on Hurricane Katrina,” she said. “They have learned a lot and are feeling great responsibility for keeping Earth healthy and helping one another through service. They have well informed opinions, and as part of their opinion writing unit, we are lining up audiences for the kids to send their opinion pieces to.”

She asked if Decaturish would publish the letters, and we agreed. Editor Dan Whisenhunt and columnist Nicki Salcedo also visited the students to give them pointers on how to write an opinion piece.
