The fire occurred at Pine Tree Circle. According to the Fire Department, firefighters were catching babies and children as they were dropped from the higher floors of the complex.

A message from the Avondale Elementary PTA says, “Many [families] lost everything except their pajamas. Principal [Dontae] Andrews was on the scene early. We are researching addresses to see exactly how many AES families were impacted, but Dr. Andrews has identified at least 12 students.”

The PTA is collecting school uniforms, shoes, coats, socks, underwear and gift cards.

The city of Avondale Estates says, “These items can be dropped off at Avondale Elementary School, 8 Lakeshore Drive, Avondale Estates, or the home of Patti Ghezzi at 3140 Wynn Drive, Avondale Estates.”

You can also donate money to a Go Fund Me account by clicking here.

“Funds will go directly to families impacted by the fire. Donations will be deposited in the Avondale Elementary School Education Fund bank account, and the school’s administration team, including the counselor, Ms. [Sherita] Ross, will determine how to use the funds to best meet these students’ needs,” the PTA’s message says.
