Dianna Herron-Watson will retire from her job as Glennwood Elementary School’s principal at the end of the school year.

Herron-Watson made the announcement in a letter sent to parents on Monday afternoon.

“After seven wonderful years at Glennwood and 22 years in City Schools of Decatur, I will retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year,” she wrote. “I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. The decision was not an easy one because of my deep commitment to Glennwood, its students, its staff, and to the greater CSD community that supports our mission. My passion for teaching and love for students has not subsided.”

Dear Glennwood Families,

After seven wonderful years at Glennwood and 22 years in City Schools of Decatur, I will retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. The decision was not an easy one because of my deep commitment to Glennwood, its students, its staff, and to the greater CSD community that supports our mission. My passion for teaching and love for students has not subsided.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have served as an educator in such a vibrant and supportive community; a community where education is valued as a top priority by students, teachers and parents alike. I am blessed to have been a colleague to such an extraordinary faculty and staff, and I am humbled by the fact that parents have entrusted a portion of their child’s education with me. Opening Glennwood has been a highlight of my career. I was given a gift from this community to help in creating a caring, loving and high quality school that I will never forget.

Please know that my dedication and commitment will continue throughout the summer as we transition to a new principal. Dr. Dude and David Adams, CSD Personnel Director, will work with the staff and the community to find a new principal. They will communicate those details at a later date.

I want to thank you for all your encouragement, support and trust you have shown me since Glennwood’s inception in 2011. I am confident that Glennwood will continue to flourish in academic excellence in the years to come.

With gratitude,

Dianna Herron-Watson, Ed.S.
Principal
