Chuck Ellis named DeKalb Parks Director

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond recently selected Chuck Ellis to be the county’s director of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs.

Ellis holds his title as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional by the National Recreation and Parks Association, and for 35 years, he has worked in government.

Most recently, Ellis served as director of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts in Hollywood, Fla. According to a recent press release, “under his direction, his departments became nationally accredited and received many awards and distinctions.”

Ellis will take the position starting on Feb. 26, and he will oversee 200 full and part-time employees, 112 parks, 10 recreation facilities, two golf courses, and attractions such as Little Creek Horse Farm.
