City Schools of Decatur has gone outside the city to find space to store its school buses.

Following the Jan. 23 School Board meeting, the board voted to buy a 1.45 acre property at 540 Kentucky Street in Scottdale, just off of North Decatur Road. The purchase price is $1.4 million.

The buses are currently parked at the site for the future Talley Street elementary school.

The Scottdale property includes a small office building, warehouse space and – most importantly – parking area to store the buses.

“The property we are purchasing is for use as a facility for our transportation department, allowing us to free-up space at the Talley Street school site where we were previously going to have to park buses,” Superintendent David Dude wrote in a blog post recapping the Jan. 23 meeting.
