Beginning in April, the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency is offering two Community Emergency Response Team Training Workshops, free of charge for all DeKalb County residents.

Those who participate in either workshop will learn “what to do before, during, and after a disaster occurs.” According to a recent press release, the course topics will cover:

– Disaster preparedness

– Basic fire suppression

– Medical operations

– Disaster psychology

– Team organization and terrorism

– Autism awareness

One of the two workshops will be on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., starting on Tuesday, April 3. The other workshop will be on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., starting on Thursday, April 5.

Both workshops are nine weeks long and will be held at the DeKalb Fire Rescue Headquarters, located at 1950 West Exchange Place in Tucker.

In order to be a part of one of the workshops, residents need to pass a background check. To register today, click on www.dekalbcountyga.gov/dema and select the CERT menu option.
