Agnes Scott College has appointed Shannan Palma as the faculty director of its new writing and digital communication graduate program, the college announced in a press release.

According to the release, Palma will bring her writing and communication experiences from Emory University to lead the graduate program, which launches in the coming fall semester.

Additionally, Palma will lead a faculty that includes Melissa Fay Greene, a journalist and award-winning author of six books of nonfiction, Ruth Dusseault, a cross-disciplinary media artist in photography, film and digital production and Mina Ivanova, an expert in communication theory and practice.

Palma’s goal for students pursuing a master’s or graduate certificate in writing and digital communication is “to help them learn to write for the web and social media and develop analytical and forecasting skills, so they think critically about digital communication and its impact on the world,” the release said.

“Students are drawn to Agnes Scott for its reputation for academic excellence and innovation and because they share its values of inclusion, courage and integrity,” Palma said. “The graduate programs will help them incorporate these strengths and values into the way they go about their work responsibilities.”
