Starting this week, the Clarkston Streetscape Water Main Relocation Project will begin construction at the East Ponce de Leon Avenue and North Indian Creek Drive intersection.

The project, which will begin Tuesday, May 29, includes the installation of nearly 8,000 feet of new water pipe in the Clarkston area, according to a DeKalb County press release.

Crews will begin overnight work from 6 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. All westbound lanes of East Ponce de Leon Avenue from Jolly Avenue to North Indian Creek Drive will be closed to through-traffic. In addition, westbound traffic on East Ponce will be directed onto Church Street at North Indian Creek.

The detour will remain in place and the westbound lane closures will move eastward toward Market Street as the pipe installation progresses. Eastbound traffic on East Ponce will not be affected, the release said.

Inclement weather could delay the start of the closure and overnight work schedule. Once implemented, the lane closure, detour and night hours will continue until work between Jolly Avenue and Market Street is completed in September.

Motorists should  plan for extra commuting time. Lane closure signs will be in the area alerting motorists to the construction work and local traffic restrictions.
