The Kings of Halftime Marching Band of Martin Luther King Jr. High School was recently chosen to play in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2019.
There were over 100 high school marching bands all over the country who applied, and the Kings of Halftime were one of the nine selected for the parade.
Director of the band, Travis Kimber delivered a surprise announcement about their selection this past week. The announcement also featured remarks from district officials, such as DeKalb County School District Superintendent and CEO R. Stephen Green.
According to a recent press release, “the Kings of Halftime will spend the next 18 months planning for their appearance. This will include not just rehearsals, but fundraisers and community-wide celebratory events.”
The band will be performing for a huge crowd, the parade attracting more than 3.5 million spectators and 50 million television viewers around the world.
