Laurel Ridge Elementary School was in lock down mode on Tuesday morning but resumed normal operations shortly thereafter.

A DeKalb County police spokesperson said the lock down was triggered following a burglary.

“The lock down was in reference to a residential burglary nearby and the school was locked down as a precaution in case the suspects headed in that location,” the spokesperson said.

According to a letter sent to parents, the lock down resulted from, “a potential concern originating in the surrounding neighborhood.”

“At no time did any individual enter the building nor was the safety of any student threatened,” the letter says. “Once the all clear was given, the lock down was cancelled.”
