Recovering Hometown Hero Eli Dodson spends ‘best day ever’ with Atlanta FalconsPhoto provided by the Decatur Police Department.
Eli Dodson, a longtime, well-known Decatur resident who’s been fighting health challenges for months, spent “the best day ever” with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday, according to the Decatur Police Department.
Dodson, who was named a Hometown Hero in 2015, has been recovering from an infection since late 2017.
A frequent volunteer, Dodson has worked with the Police Department through their Citizens Assisting Public Safety program. He’s also volunteered at the city’s Visitor’s Center and worked with the Better Together Leadership Circle.
In a Facebook post earlier this week, the Police Department thanked 11Alive, AT&T’s Regional Director, the Atlanta Falcons and more for inviting Dodson to a closed Falcons practice.
Dodson, a big Falcons fan, did more than just watch from afar, though. He got to meet members of the team and experience the practice up close.
“Coach Quinn did not simply introduce himself, he spent time explaining the practice and answering questions and made sure Eli met one of his favorite players, Desmond Trufant,” the Police Department said. “After practice, Matt Ryan gave Eli one of the practice balls and a host of other players stopped by to meet Eli.”
Additionally, AT&T gifted Eli with a new tablet and covered internet service for a year.
