Tanisha Sanders

City Schools of Decatur has announced the hiring of Tanisha Sanders as Oakhurst Elementary’s new principal.

She replaces Robin Fountain, who resigned last summer to take a job in South Carolina. Marcia Fowler has been the school’s interim principal.

“Mrs. Sanders has been a school administrator since 2013 and is currently serving as the principal at Whit Davis Elementary School in Clarke County,” an email from the school to parents says. “Prior to her tenure at Whit Davis, Mrs. Sanders served as an assistant principal and testing coordinator, 5th-grade teacher, 2nd-grade teacher, and kindergarten teacher in Gwinnett County and DeKalb County Schools.”

There were 64 applications for the job. An interview team interviewed 13 candidates and chose four finalists.

“Thank you to all of the individuals that participated in this important selection process,” Dr. Dude said in the email. “I believe that Mrs. Sanders will be a great fit for the community, and she will continue the wonderful work of the school while supporting the staff and advancing the learning of all students at Oakhurst.”
