The 18th annual Decatur BBQ Blues & Bluegrass Festival will return in August with a “musical lineup that should feature something for everyone,” according to the festival’s press release.
This year, the eight bands will include local, regional and national groups performing blues, bluegrass, country, and New Orleans funk acts, headlined by the Chris Duarte Group.
Duarte plays a style of Texas blues-rock that draws on elements of jazz, blues, and rock and roll, the release said. He won “Best New Talent” in Guitar Player’s 1995 Reader’s Poll and finished fourth in the magazine’s “Best Blues Guitarist” category that year behind legends Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and B.B. King.
“Each year, we are fortunate to bring to our fans a great lineup of music. This year we feel the variety of acts and music will offer the festival goer a bit of everything while staying true to our blues and bluegrass roots,” Festival Director Michael Vajda said.
All but one of this year’s artists will be making their debut at the festival. This includes 17-year-old country, blues and rockabilly sensation and “The Voice” and “American Idol” contestant Preston James.
The festival will take place Saturday, August 11 from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. with one stage at 630 East Lake Drive and another at Harmony Park in the Oakhurst neighborhood in Decatur. Schedule and ticket information is below.
