The annual Decatur Beach Party will return on Friday, June 15, under a new name, Summer in the City, bringing the sandy beach back to downtown Decatur.

With 80 tons of sand covering Ponce de Leon Avenue, families are invited to come out and experience a variety of beach-themed summer activities. This year’s event will feature pop-up performances, a DJ, live music, a rock climbing wall and other kids’ activities.

Additionally, the event will include a food court with a variety of food trucks, “boardwalk fare” and a selection of local beers. Wine, soft drinks and water will also be available for purchase, and restaurants will still be open.

The event will last from 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Beginning this year, admission is free, but there will still be small fees for face painting, souvenirs and some of the larger kids activities. All proceeds go to the Decatur Business Association to help keep yearly events free.
