With the DeKalb and Fulton County Animal Services shelters now caring for more than 1,000 animals, LifeLine Animal Project is looking for 50 temporary foster homes, the organization announced.
The two-week fostering is ideal for those who are considering a pet but aren’t ready for a long-term commitment or anyone who can make room for an animal for a few weeks.
LifeLine is looking for the temporary foster homes to help alleviate some of the stress that such a large quantity of animals puts on the shelters. According to the release, LifeLine will supply all of the pet’s supplies and necessary support.
There is a range of pet types to foster, from small kittens and playful dogs to older, more senior animals.
According to LifeLine Public Relations Director Karen Hirsch, getting 50 pets into foster homes has a big impact on the shelters.
“There are numerous benefits in having many animals go into foster homes at once,” she said. “It frees up space, allowing us to focus on placing fewer animals into loving homes or with rescue groups.”
Temporary fostering also gives animals a break from the shelter, while exposing them to more potential adopters.
When the animals are brought back, LifeLine can gain “valuable insights into their personalities from the foster parents that we can share with potential adopters,” Hirsch said. Plus, some foster parents even decide to keep the pet for more time or permanently.
Anyone interested in fostering a pet for two weeks can visit any of the following locations this Saturday and Sunday, June 23 and 24, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- LifeLine’s Dog House & Kitty Motel, located at 129 Lake Street in Avondale Estates
- DeKalb County Animal Services, located at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Chamblee
- Fulton County Animal Services, located at 860 Marietta Blvd NW in Atlanta
If you’d rather adopt, LifeLine is running a “Pick Your Price” promotion throughout June, where you name the price for your adopted pet at all of LifeLine’s shelters.
