Oakhurst Porchfest launched in 2015, and the community-driven music event has exploded in popularity, bringing thousands of people who wander the streets checking out bands on various porches.

The growth of the event means more hands are needed to ensure it’s a success. Porchfest organizers are appointing block captains this year. The block captains will be responsible for keeping traffic moving, keeping the noise under control and talking to the police if the need should arise.

Decatur Police suggested the block captain idea, according to Decatur Metro, one of the lead organizers of the event.

“Think of them as a neighborhood-wide battalion of hyperlocal overlords,” Decatur Metro says. “Mayors of Good Vibes, helping to make each street’s experience more unique, accessible, and responsive to the inevitable challenges that come with an event of our size.”

Porchfest will be held on Saturday, October 13, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
