The Decatur School Board recently voted to buy more property to improve access to Westchester Elementary School.

Following its July 17 meeting, the board unanimously authorized the purchase of property at 212 Westchester Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. The sellers are David Scott Nelson and Jennifer Towles McClellan Nelson, as Trustees of the Scott and Jennifer Nelson Revocable Living Trust dated June 9, 2017.

The property is .3 acres. The purchase price is $515,000 cash. The anticipated closing date is July 30, 2018.

School Board Chair Lewis Jones told Decaturish that Westchester Elementary has several access issues that the purchase is intended to alleviate.

“We’ve got a number of parcels and we’re trying to take them as they come available,” he said.

In 2016, the school board authorized the purchase of a .3 acre tract at 208 Westchester Drive for $489,000. In 2017, the board bought a home from a former Decatur High guidance counselor at 204 Westchester Drive for $515,000.
