After presenting the unified concept plan for the United Methodist Children’s Home property last week, the city of Decatur is looking for community input on what its priorities should be for the first phase of development.

The presentation laid out some proposed phases moving forward based on the ease of implementation, logistics and expectations for available funding over time.

Some of the short-term possibilities for the first phase include developing the amphitheater, the artist village, the arboretum and more. Other parts of the concept, such as the track and field facility and housing, are considered long-term goals, the city said.

After the meeting last week, attendees participated in a breakout activity focused on the project’s next steps: the order in which a roster of initial projects they thought should be pursued and what resources might be available to get them done.

The city is still looking for more input from those who did not attend the meeting. Go here to take the survey and share your thoughts with the city.
