LifeLine Animal Project and the Tall Tales Book Shop will host a joint dog adoption and book event on Sunday, August 5, featuring an assortment of dog-related books along with a number of adoptable dogs from the DeKalb County Animal Shelter.

Nationally-renowned author Melissa Fay Greene be there from 4 to 5 p.m. to sign copies of her most recent book, “The Underdogs: Children, Dogs and the Power of Unconditional Love.”

Additionally, Lifeline’s “shelter dog with a job” Otter will make an appearance, and anyone who adopts a dog or buys any book will receive homemade dog biscuit.

“People are usually dragging their feet by the end of July. That’s when the dog star, also called Sirius, appears in the nighttime sky,” Tall Tales bookseller Eve Shulmister said. “What better way to liven up these days than with a celebration of dogs! We hope this will turn out to be an annual event.”

The event will take place from 3 to 6 PM at 2105 LaVista Road in the Toco Hills Shopping Center.
