Decatur Police respond to calls about a cycling accident and a collision with a church bus

Readers have asked about two recent accidents in the city of Decatur.

Both accidents sent people to the hospital.

The first involved a cyclist.

Lt. Jennifer Ross said, “We responded to the 1100 block of Church Street [on] August 16, 2018 at approximately 5:44 p.m. to assist the Fire Department with a medical call. A witness reported the injured person was traveling north on Church Street on a bicycle when he lost control and struck a curb. The cyclist was bleeding from the head and was transported to an area hospital.”

The second incident involved a vehicle crashing into a church bus.

Lt. Ross said,  “[On} August 16, 2018 at approximately 4:40 p.m., Decatur Police responded to an accident in the 700 block of South Columbia Drive. Vehicle No. 1 was traveling southbound on South Columbia Drive, left the roadway, traveled through the yard into the parking lot at 711 South Columbia Drive and struck an unoccupied church bus parked in the parking lot. The parked church bus that was initially struck was pushed into a second unoccupied parked church bus. The driver was transported to an area hospital.”
