Numerous police officers descended on Decatur’s 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue, F.AVE, Thursday morning, Aug. 9, after a naked man was discovered on the school’s basketball court.

The man was having a mental health crisis, Decatur Police said. School officials said students were not in danger.

Good afternoon F.AVE community,

We apologize for any issues you may have encountered during drop off this morning. We were forced to reroute the drop off lane due to police activity in the area. At no time did the police activity present any danger to students or staff. It only impeded drop off.  We continued to have a great day at school and would like to thank or police department for handling the situation.

The Decatur Police Department shared this information with us about the situation this morning:

On Thursday, August 9, 2018 at approximately 7:11 am, SRO Keck responded to a report of a nude male on school property at FAVE. The male was located on the basketball court. The male was suffering from a mental health crisis and was subsequently detained under the Georgia Mental Health Act and transported to an area hospital without incident. The male was also issued a criminal trespass warning for the school property.
