John Franklin Manning of Norcross, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 1, 2018. He is survived by his wife Caroline Manning, daughters Sarah Frances Locke and Catherine Maguire; son-in-laws Jaye Locke and Matt Maguire; and four granddaughters Caroline, Olivia, Sophie, and Emerson. John loved life and lived it to the fullest.

A devout Christian father, grandfather and husband, he opened every day with, “This is the day the Lord has made especially for you” and he meant it. He was always available to serve and never met a stranger. His laugh was infectious, his smile contagious and if you were honored enough to get a hug, which most everyone was, he could turn a bad day into a good day.

Growing up in Decatur, GA, John attended Druid Hills High School (’65) followed by the University of Georgia (UGA), where he fell in love with his Georgia Bulldogs. After UGA, he graduated with a law degree from Mercer University and went on to practice law for more than 40 years in Atlanta.

With a love of all things God, Bulldogs, his fraternity Sigma Chi and the YMCA, John volunteered his time to these organizations and the church with an unmatched passion.Please join us for a celebration of life honoring this amazing man and his legacy.

The service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Simpsonwood United Methodist Church, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to John’s two favorite loves – Simpsonwood United Methodist Church, www.simpsonwoodumc.org and the Robert D.
