After months of chasing leads, Decatur Police believe they have found the driver responsible for striking and killing a pedestrian in February of this year.

“The Decatur Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has been investigating the hit and run pedestrian fatality that occurred on February 2, 2018 where Anthony Lingoes was struck and killed in the 300 block of East College Avenue,” Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “As a result of an extensive investigation, following up on every potential lead and tips that came in from the community, a suspect was identified. On October 1, 2018, 39-year-old Omari Young of DeKalb County was charged with vehicular homicide and hit and run in this case.”

Lingoes, 33, was struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of East College Avenue around 3 a.m.

Lingoes was hit while he was walking east of South Candler Street in the roadway. He worked at The Marlay House in Decatur.

Andy, Anthony’s younger brother, said his family is grateful to Decatur Police for tracking down the suspect.

“My mother and I are very appreciative to the Detectives hard work in investigating Tony’s case and finding the person who will be held accountable for their actions,” he said.
