The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office will host a one-day, hands-on firearm safety program that includes becoming familiar with personal firearms and learning how to discharge firearms safely, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The event will include 30-minute firearms instruction seminars at each hour from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., covering topics such as safely loading and discharging firearms, aiming and hitting targets, safely securing firearms and Georgia’s gun laws.

Additionally, a S.W.A.T. weapons demonstration will take place at noon.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Firing Range, 3405 North Goddard Road, Lithonia, Ga. 30038.

While individual reservations are not required, groups of 10 or more should call 404-298-8175 by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 to ensure space availability. Proof of age will be required for use of firearms on the range (must be 18 or older). Pets will not be allowed inside the property.
