The Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby will be held this Saturday, Oct. 6.

There were more than 1,500 spectators and 90 competitors at last year’s race. A spokesperson for the event says the best place to watch is, Madison Avenue between Johnston Place and Beaty Place.

“The derby welcomes families and is free to attend,” the spokesperson said. “Among the flagship sponsors are Three Taverns, Universal Joint, Ace Hardware, IceBox, MailChimp, Pull-A-Part and Oakhurst Market. Proceeds from the 2018 derby go to support Decatur Education Foundation and City Schools of Decatur Special Education PTA.”

The teams arrive 10:30 a.m. There will be judging at noon and the race starts at 1 p.m. The event includes food and drink vendors and live music.
