Decatur Active Living hosts a lacrosse team, offering lessons and practices for students between kindergarten and eighth grade, according to a DAL press release.

In lacrosse – North America’s oldest native sport – two teams made up of up to 13 players compete to shoot the ball into the opponents’ net using a lacrosse stick.

Girls wear a mouth guard and goggles, while boys wear a helmet, gloves and torso pads for more physical contact, the pres release said. Both girls and boys teams are offered.

The teams will play in the Metro Atlanta Youth Lacrosse Association (MAYLA) league and compete with teams throughout Atlanta and surrounding areas, according to DAL.

Practices are typically two weekday evenings with a weekend game. The spring season starts this month and ends in May with a weekend tournament.

Players of all skill levels are encouraged to sign up. Instruction includes fundamentals, conditioning and play strategies. You only need lacrosse gear to play and do not need to be a Decatur resident to join.

Register online here before Jan. 25 to participate. Call (404) 377-0494 with questions.
