The Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights Education Committee will host Brenda Shum and Genevieve Torres from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Ebster Recreation Center.

The rec center is located at 105 Electric Ave, Decatur, GA 30030. The event begins at 6 p.m.

“The mission of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law is to secure equal justice for all through the rule of law, targeting in particular the inequities confronting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities,” the meeting announcement says.

According to Michael Davis, the Beacon Hill Education Committee Co-Chair, “The Beacon Hill Education Committee has been working with members of the community to confront the documented, racial, academic and discipline discrepancies in City Schools of Decatur.  Mses. Shum and Torres will share which laws govern the issues Beacon Hill has been addressing and the legal options families have at their disposal.”
