Decatur Police responded to another accident on South Candler Street  on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Police responded to the call around 4:02 p.m. The accident occurred on South Candler at East Davis Street.

“Vehicle #1, a Dodge Caravan, was stopped facing east at the stop sign on East Davis Street at its intersection with South Candler Street,” Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “Vehicle #2, a Honda Civic, was traveling south within the 400 block of South Candler Street approaching East Davis Street. The driver of the Dodge Caravan attempted to make a left turn, north onto South Candler Street, directly into the path of the Honda Civic. The Honda Civic struck the driver’s side rear passenger sliding door of the Dodge Caravan. Both drivers complained of wrist and arm pain due to air bag deployment, but declined medical treatment at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Caravan was cited for improper left turn.”

Accidents on South Candler have been under scrutiny in recent months. There was an accident reported earlier this month that sent a scooter driver to the hospital.

Residents concerned about traffic on the road have pointed to the crashes as evidence the road is unsafe.

The Calm Candler Facebook group has requested that the city and the Georgia Department of Transportation do more to improve safety on the road, which is a state route. The city says it has taken several steps to make the road safer.
