Decatur Police say witnesses thought a man had died after he fell face first onto the street near the intersection of Church Street and East Trinity Place.

He survived and told police he doesn’t remember what happened to him after having a drink. Witnesses told police the man appeared to be intoxicated.

The incident happened on Feb. 23.  Police responded to the call around 5:43 p.m.

“Officer Adams located a male lying on the ground in the middle of the street,” Police Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “Decatur Fire Rescue personnel were already on scene rendering aid to the male. The male was motionless and bleeding profusely from the head.”

Witnesses said they saw him walking on the curb on East Trinity Place and said he looked intoxicated. They saw him fall.

“While being attended to by fire personnel, the male began to breathe and was transported to an area hospital,” Ross said. “Officer Adams later followed up at the hospital to determine the identity of the injured male who stated he only remembered having a drink and nothing afterwards.”
