The Madison Avenue Community Fund is in need of local beneficiaries for the 2019 Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby in Oakhurst, which is classified as “Decatur’s largest community-led spectator sporting event,” according to a recent press release.
The Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby was created in 2011, and since its start has raised over $180,000 to benefit local charities for children.
“We’re excited to bring our community together once again and do something extraordinary that helps a local nonprofit grow its impact on local youths,” Madison Avenue Community Fund founding member Marco DiCarlo said in a recent press release. “With the date set for the ninth annual derby, our team is currently searching for a worthwhile beneficiary to partner with.”
This year’s derby will be held on Oct. 5.
Submissions by organizations are due by Friday, April 26, and all local nonprofits are encouraged to apply. Beneficiary proposals should be emailed to: email@example.com.

In addition, “nearly two-dozen local businesses in Decatur and surrounding areas helped underwrite the 2018 derby, which drew an estimated 1,500 attendees and featured nearly 100 racers,” according to a recent press release.
