A transformer exploded near the Movie Tavern in Tucker on Saturday afternoon, leaving the theater without power and disrupting traffic around the area.

Gabriel Owens, a Decaturish contributor, was in the theater watching the 2:40 p.m. showing of the “Avengers: Endgame” movie. The lights went out 10 minutes into the film.

One of the managers of the theater told patrons that a transformer blew at the Lavista Business Center on Weems Road, directly behind the Movie Tavern. The incident affected nearby traffic lights, backing up traffic. The movie theater is located on LaVista Road.

Georgia Power said the estimated time of restoration is 5 p.m.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue was not immediately available for comment. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
