Agnes Scott announces Commencement and Baccalaureate Ceremony speakers

Agnes Scott College recently announced the speakers for the 2019 Commencement weekend, taking place on May 10 and May 11.

The Baccalaureate Ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on May 10, and the Rev. Tara Spuhler McCabe will be this year’s Baccalaureate Vespers speaker. Spuhler graduated in 1996 from Agnes Scott with her undergraduate degree in religious studies, and she currently serves as the National Capital Presbytery pastor and coordinator for the Presbyterian Church Young Adult Volunteer Program.

Jordan Casteel and Mallika Balakrishnan will be speakers at the Commencement Ceremony, held on Saturday morning, May 11, at 9:30 a.m. at Presser Quadrangle, or 141 East College Avenue in Decatur.

Casteel graduated from Agnes Scott in 2011, and today, she’s an internationally recognized artist. She was one of Forbes magazine’s “30 under 30” this year, and her work has been in major publications, such as Vogue, The New Yorker, and The New York Times.

In addition, Balakrishnan is graduating from Agnes Scott this spring, and she will be the first student speaker at Agnes Scott Commencement.
