Man dies after being observed in ‘distress’ at Glenlake Pool in Decatur

A man died after swimming at Glenlake Pool on Tuesday, May 28, a spokesperson for the city said.
The cause of the man’s death was not clear. The Police Department referred all questions to city spokesperson Renae Madison.
“On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at approximately 1:15 p.m., Decatur Police and Decatur Fire and Rescue responded to an unresponsive male at Glenlake Pool,” Madison said. “A lifeguard reported that the male was observed swimming and then in distress. The male was pulled from the pool and CPR was administered. The man was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced deceased. The identity of the male is not being released pending notification of the family.”
When asked if the man drowned, Madison said, “We are unsure of the cause of death at this time.”
Glenlake Pool is located at 1121 Church Street in Decatur.
The pool was closed for the rest of the day following the incident and is expected to reopen on Wednesday, March 29.
