On Friday, June 21, from 5 to 11 p.m., Decatur is celebrating the start of summer with the annual Decatur Beach Party on the Decatur Square.

Ponce de Leon Avenue will be transformed into a beach for the night with 80 tons of sand spread along the road. There will be food trucks and local beers for sale on the street, and music by Old 4th Ward Disco Boogie Band and DJ Quasi Mandisco for entertainment.

In addition, this year’s beach party has enough sponsorship to no longer be gated, so it’ll be free admission for party-goers.

Activities, such as the rock climbing wall and dunk tank, will cost a small amount. Proceeds will go to the Decatur Business Association, which puts on this event as well as several other free events each year.
