Decatur Police responded to a report of sexual battery early Friday morning, June 14.

Police responded the call from Sycamore Place at Commerce Drive around 1:26 a.m.

“The victim reported that at approximately 1:20 a.m., she exited the Decatur MARTA Station in the 400 block of Church Street and began walking home,” the Police Department said. “She observed the suspect walking behind her as she exited the fare gates at the train station and believed the suspect possibly boarded the train at the Five Points Station, but they did not ride in the same car. She walked northbound on Church Street, then eastbound on East Ponce de Leon Avenue and observed the suspect following her on the opposite side of the roadway.

“The suspect called out and made a sexually explicit statement to her and then crossed to the same side of the street she was walking on and continued to follow her. She purposely passed her residence for fear of the situation escalating and not wanting the suspect to know where she lived. The suspect then ran towards her and grabbed her buttocks near the intersection of East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Sycamore Place. The victim ran and the suspect left the area. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect.”

Police described the suspect as a, “black male in his 40’s, approximately 5’6” and 200 lbs, medium build, walked with a noticeable limp, wearing a blue hoodie and carrying a black backpack.”
