DeKalb County Police said that on Friday evening around 9:30 p.m., 20 to 26 adults wearing masks, hoods and gloves vandalized the Maloof Building in Decatur.

The building holds county administrative offices and the County Commission meets there.

The suspects, wielding pickaxes and hammers, broke several windows and doors and spray painted the building’s exterior.

The investigation is ongoing. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says the violence could be related to protests of conditions at the DeKalb County Jail.

According to the AJC, “The vandalism occurred on the same night protesters gathered a few miles away to amplify the May 11 death of inmate Clarence Mannings and others who died at the jail.”
