The Georgia Department of Transportation has rescheduled an intersection closure from this weekend to next weekend, starting Friday, July 19 at 9 p.m.

That weekend, contractors will temporarily close the intersection of U.S. 78, Ponce de Leon Avenue and Briarcliff Road for “exploratory underground work for sewer/water line repairs.”

The closure will end Monday, July 22, at 5 a.m.

Intersection Closure at Ponce De Leon Ave and Briarcliff Rd Rescheduled to Next Weekend

Detours in place, plan an alternate route!
 
ATLANTA- Georgia Department of Transportation and City of Atlanta contractors will temporarily close the intersection of US 78/SR 8/Ponce De Leon Ave NE and US 23/ SR 42/Briarcliff Rd NE next weekend to perform exploratory underground work for sewer/water line repairs.
 
The continuous full closure of the intersection has been rescheduled to begin Friday, July 19 at 9 p.m. until Monday, July 22 at 5 a.m. Signs and message boards will alert drivers in advance of approaching the closure and detour signs will help motorists navigate around the closure. Drivers should expect traffic delays in the area and should plan ahead for additional travel time. 
 
Motorists heading Eastbound on US 78/SR 8/ Ponce De Leon Ave
Detour: Turn right onto SR 10/John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE, exit right towards SR 42 /E. Carter Center. Turn right onto Moreland Ave NE. Motorists will then exit toward Moreland Ave southbound ramp and turn left on DeKalb Ave.  Turn left onto Clifton Rd and turn right onto US 78/SR 8 Ponce De Leon Ave.
 
Motorists heading Westbound on US 78/SR 8/ Ponce De Leon Ave:
Detour: Turn left onto Clifton Rd, turn right onto DeKalb Ave, then right to merge onto Moreland Ave. Turn left onto John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE, then turn right onto SR 10/John Lewis Freedom Pkwy and turn left onto US 78/SR 8 Ponce De Leon Ave.

Motorists heading Southbound on US 23/SR 42/ Briarcliff Rd:
Detour: Turn right toward Johnson Rd NE, continue onto North Highland Ave NE, then turn right onto Ponce De Leon Ave NE. Motorists will then turn left onto SR 10 W/John Lewis Freedom Pkwy and take the exit toward SR42/E. Carter Center. Continue onto John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE, and then turn right onto Moreland Ave NE.
 
Motorists heading Northbound on US 23/SR 42/ Moreland Ave NE:
Detour: Head northbound on Moreland Ave NE, turn left onto John Lewis Freedom Pkwy NE then right onto SR 10/John Lewis Freedom Pkwy. Motorists will then turn right onto US-278/ E. Ponce De Leon Ave NE and turn left onto North Highland Avenue NE.  Continue onto Johnson Rd NE, and turn left onto SR42/ N.
