Two local authors have won 2019 Georgia Author of the Year awards, joining another two professors from Emory University who also received awards.

The Georgia Writers Association gives out the awards, which were announced at the 55th annual award ceremony, on June 15.

One author, Julia Knowlton, is also a professor of French at Agnes Scott College in Decatur. Knowlton won in the Poetry Chapbook category for her work “The Café of Unintelligible Desire.”

Knowlton will give a reading on July 29 in Decatur through the Georgia Center for the Book at the Decatur Public Library along with Mario Chard, the other winner in poetry, who teaches at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.

Another local author, Decatur resident Rachael Allen, won in the Young Adult category for her novel, “A Taxonomy of Love.”
