Avondale Estates to host two annual 5K races next month
Throughout September, Avondale Estates will host two of its annual 5K races, with the first happening on Labor Day and the second taking place toward the end of the month.
The 41st annual Labor Day race, benefiting Emory ALS Center, will take place on Monday, Sept. 2. Line up will be at Willis Park at the corner of Dartmouth Ave. and Clarendon Place.
Race-day registration will be available at the starting line, but participants are encouraged to register online beforehand. Online registration is available here.
On-site registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the one-mile race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Then, the main 5K race will kick off at 9 a.m.
Registration for the one-mile race is $15 before Aug. 23 and $20 on-site. The cost for the 5K race is $25 before Aug. 23 or $30 on-site.
Then, on Saturday, Sept. 28, Avondale will also host the Avondale Elementary School (AES) 5K and one-mile race – formerly called the AES Runs the World race.
The AES 5K and one-mile race is a signature fundraiser for the Avondale Elementary School Education Foundation. Funds from previous races have supported the expansion of educational programming in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as well as physical education, outdoor learning spaces, and professional training for teachers. This year’s funds will continue to provide support in these areas, the city said.
The race will be USA Track and Field certified, and times qualify for Atlanta’s Peachtree Road Race, as well as other races, according to the city.
The race costs $17 for the one-mile race or $23 for the 5K for registration before Aug. 16. On-site registration will be $24 and $38 for the respective races.
