Power outage in downtown Decatur affects hundreds of customers

Readers reported a power outage in in Downtown Decatur on Wednesday evening, Aug. 7.

During the blackout, Georgia Power’s website reported that the disruption affected 3,100 customers. In a follow up interview, a spokesperson said the actual number of customers affected was about 700.

“Georgia Power teams worked as safely and quickly as possible during Wednesday night’s outage to fully restore service to the approx. seven-hundred customers in a little more than an hour,” the spokesperson Craig Bell said. “The outage was caused by an equipment issue with an underground cable. We always appreciate our customers’ patience as we make repairs.”
