Here is a quick look at business news in the Decatur area:

Emory University and Duda|Paine Architects, an international design firm, recently completed the new Emory University Student Center.

According to a press release from the architecture firm, the architects worked with Emory University to create the 130,000-square foot facility and to make it an “inclusive self-directed learning laboratory that complements Emory’s academic experience.”

“A primary goal of the Emory Student Center is to serve as an all-campus nexus that brings us together as a campus family,” David Clark, Emory’s associate vice president, said. “It’s about building community for students, faculty, staff and guests — for all members of our university family.”

In order to encourage community interaction across campus, the architects sought to design a student center that subdivided the project’s larger project into small “pavilions on a hill,” the release said.

Recurring themes of collaborative space and community building informed the arrangement of pavilions and multi-story spaces throughout the Student Center. To mitigate the project’s tremendous scale for the carefully curated context of Emory’s campus, Duda|Paine positioned large portions of the building underground.

The new facility includes meeting and multipurpose rooms on the first floor, a sunshade canopy and more.

“Our work is grounded by a shared passion for ideas-based architecture. We focus on placemaking and creating an inspired and heightened human experience,” Turan Duda, one of the founding members of Duda|Paine Architects, said.

Reagin Optometric Group announced that it has a new owner: Dr. Lindsay Marshburn

“Dr. Marshburn is happy to call Decatur home along her husband, Patrick, and their two daughters, Elliana and Olivia,” a press release from the company says. “She attended the University of Georgia before receiving her doctorate from UAB School of Optometry, then continuing with a residency in Refractive Surgery and Ocular Disease.”

She’s been at the practice for five years.

“Reagin Eyes was founded by Dr Wallis Reagin in 1950 and he was later joined by his two sons, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Richard,” the press release says. “The office recently relocated to a renovated home at 216 Church Street, where you can relax and wait for your appointment on the front porch swing.”

Atlanta Urgent Care has opened a new office on Clairmont Road in North Druid Hills.

The new location is at 2738 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA, 30329, by the Clairmont Road and Briarcliff Road intersection, near I-85.

There will be a grand opening party on Sept. 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Co-owner Dr. Anthony Ferrara said, “We are so happy to be a part of the Oak Grove/Lakeside community. We have gotten to know so many members of the community over the years and are honored to be their preferred neighborhood healthcare provider.”
