Chris Stirn announced Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, that he will withdraw from the race for Decatur City Commission’s District 2, Post B seat.

The current commissioner, Brian Smith, will not seek reelection. The municipal elections are Nov. 5. Stirn’s departure leaves two other candidates: Phillip Wiedower and Lesa Mayer.

Stirn, a member of the Winnona Park PTA, said he needed to withdraw for personal reasons.

“I have decided to withdraw my name from contention in this year’s city of Decatur commission election for District 2, due to some developing circumstances within my family. I need to focus my energies and efforts there,” he said. “To my family, friends, supporters, and neighbors who have shown their enthusiasm and support for my campaign, it is truly humbling and I will be forever grateful for your love and support.”

Voter registration for the Nov. 5 municipal elections will end Oct. 7. Early voting will start on Oct. 14. To register to vote, click here.

In order to register you have to be a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of a Georgia county and at least 17 1/2 years old. You must be 18 years old to vote, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
