The North Decatur Post Office at North DeKalb Mall did not reopen in late August as expected and there’s no word on when it will reopen.
Frustrated customers have been picking up their mail and dropping off packages at the main branch in Decatur.
When it initially closed, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service said, “The Postal Service closed the facility for repairs to address visual evidence of water damage to the facility’s ceiling and walls. We are working with the building’s owner on this matter. Testing for potential mold is underway. The facility is expected to reopen in late August after repairs and safety concerns are fully addressed.”
On Sept. 4, the spokesperson confirmed that the post office is still closed.
“We are working with the building’s owner on this matter,” the spokesperson said. “The facility’s scheduled reopening date for late August has been postponed while repairs continue. We apologize for any inconvenience. In the interim, North Decatur Post Office Box customers can retrieve their mail at the Decatur Main Post Office at 520 W. Ponce De Leon Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030. Full retail services are also available at that location.”
