Dear Decaturish,

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank DeKalb County Commissioner Jeff Rader for his quick attention to a potentially very dangerous issue located near Druid Hills Middle School (Mt Olive Dr).

I emailed his office with my concern on Saturday about the utility pole pictured.

The bulk of pole’s weight was hanging, suspended in a dagger-like fashion, by the wires above it. Druid Hills Middle School students walked by this dangerous pole every single day this school year.

DeKalb County, Georgia Power, and AT&T had all been shirking responsibility since the beginning of the school year, but a simple email to Commissioner Jeff Rader’s office ensured this was taken care of within two business days.

I’m quick to criticize our elected officials, but am equally quick to give commendation where earned – kudos to his office for getting the job done and putting our kids’ safety first!
