On Dec. 10, 2019, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners signed off on $345,000 worth of updates at Needham Park, an allocation from the District 4 Park Bond Funds.

According to a recent press release, “Since taking office in January 2017, Commissioner Steve Bradshaw has allocated nearly $2.4 million of Park Bond Funds and District 4 Reserve Funds to enhance recreation, parks and cultural affairs in District 4.”

Needham Park is about three acres on McClendon Drive at East Ponce de Leon, created in 1930 as part of the former J.F. McClendon subdivision.

Friends of Needham Park received a Park Pride Visioning grant in 2018, kicking off a series of community meetings to develop a vision for Needham Park. According to a recent press release, the plan recommends: addressing stream and habitat restoration, protection and enhancements, making improvements to park access circulation, and creating seating and community gathering spots.

“I am pleased to make this allocation for the renovation and improvements to Needham Park,” Commissioner Bradshaw said in a recent press release. “Although a small park, Needham Park has and will continue to have a huge impact on the many constituents who use the park for recreation.”
