Stonecrest, GA — DeKalb County seniors who received their first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine during an event at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Stonecrest in January were administered the second dose on Feb. 10.

“We have been supported today by volunteer clinicians from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., as well as local Board of Health staff,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ford, District Health Director for the DeKalb County Board of Health, who was expecting close to 500 people.

Dr. Ford said when Lou Walker Director Bettye Davis initially reached out to her to do an event at the center, there was vaccine available but no personnel to administer it.

“It was actually just serendipity,” said Dr. Ford. “This (Delta)is my sorority. They called and said we want to do something to help support you all and Dr. Wimberly, who is here, said do you know there are 150 Delta clinicians at Grady? I was like you’re kidding, so we pulled folks together from all over and here we are. That’s the only way we could have done this. It couldn’t have been done without volunteers.”
