Stone Mountain, GA — A unique new business is coming to Stone Mountain Village that will make bibliophiles and wine lovers rejoice.

Bookstore and wine bar The Vibrary is slated to open at 970 Main Street in May. Book signings, book clubs and wine tastings are on tap for the new business, according to owner Candace Walker.

“I want it to be a place that’s very inclusive, where we only have good vibes and people can come and relax and have a book and look at it or come with some friends,” Walker told The Tucker Observer.

Perhaps more unique than The Vibrary’s concept is its owner’s background. Walker is a forensic scientist who worked in the GBI crime lab before serving two stints in Afghanistan as an investigator for the Army. She became the crime lab director for the Atlanta Police Department in 2016, with the AJC calling her the lab’s ‘new star scientist.

Walker will pull double duty by keeping her APD job and running The Vibrary, which got its liquor license approved by the Stone Mountain City Council in February.

Walker, who grew up in Stone Mountain, came upon the idea for The Vibrary naturally.

“I’ve always liked reading, and when I became an adult partaking in libations, I thought that would be a good mesh,” she said.

Walker is busy getting the furniture and décor in place. She’ll focus on organic and small-vineyard wines at first, and she’s finalizing the food options which she jokingly calls “adult Lunchables” like fruits, chocolate and cheese.

The vibe at The Vibrary will be low-key.

“I don’t necessarily need to have everything-is-loud-type energy,” Walker said. “Sometimes I want to be out of my house but still be comfortable enough to relax.”

And she hopes to give novice wine drinkers a place to go.

“I know a lot of people who think the wine industry is super snobby and people are intimidated, and I want it to be a space were people can feel comfortable,” she said.

CDC guidelines and local ordinances concerning COVID-19 will be followed at The Vibrary. Walker is plotting how she wants to space things out for proper social distancing, and masks will be required when not eating or drinking.

She said the addition of The Vibrary and other up-and-coming businesses in Stone Mountain Village is creating “a nice ecosystem.”

“I’m really excited about joining the business owners that are there and the others that are coming,” she said.
