DeKalb County, GA — For the second time in two weeks, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting involving DeKalb County Police.

The most recent incident occurred on Monday, April 12, around 6 p.m. DeKalb Police said they responded to a call about a man “aggressively wielding a knife” in the 2500 block of Terrace Trail.

“Upon arrival, officers located the male who was still in possession of the knife,” a spokesperson for the Police Department said. “Once contact was made, he lunged at officers with the knife causing one of them to discharge their firearm.  It was unknown if the male was struck at this time as he fled into a vacant residence. Attempts to make contact with him were made resulting in him lunging at the officers with the knife again, causing an officer to discharge his firearm.  The male went back into the residence.  Subsequent investigation led to discovery of the male deceased inside of the residence.  No officers were injured.  The GBI is handling the investigation.”

DeKalb Police referred all questions to the GBI.

The previous incident occurred on March 31 around 4:15 a.m.

“DeKalb County PD responded to a person shot call near Pine Mountain Road,” a spokesperson for the Police Department said. “Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle potentially involved near Covington Hwy.  The (adult) male driver fled the area and moments later, crashed the vehicle before fleeing on foot.  After a brief foot pursuit, the male pointed a weapon at officers causing the officers to discharge their firearms fatally wounding him on the scene.  No officers were injured.  During the preliminary investigation, officers discovered a person inside the abandoned vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transferred to a local hospital.”
