Tucker, GA — The Rotary Club of Tucker is planning its fifth annual golf tournament to benefit education and literacy initiatives. This year, the event will be held on April 26 at Smoke Rise Golf Club, an 18-hole course surrounded by woods, streams and great views of Atlanta.

Typically held in the spring, Rotary Club of Tucker moved the 2020 golf tournament to November in hopes that the pandemic would be slowing. Although that was not the case, Rotary Club still raised $10,000, practiced COVID-19 protocols and made do with limited participants.

Lizbeth Dison, public image director, said some practices from last year will come to into play again. Rotary Club of Tucker masks will be included in golfer’s packets, along with goodies from local Tucker businesses. Lunch will be delivered on the course, to be eaten outside.

The fundraising event, 2021 Golf Classic: FOREducation, will benefit REACH Georgia Scholarship Program for Tucker Middle School and Tucker High School, Little Libraries, DeKalb Rotary Council Teacher of the Year, Carolyn’s Giving Closet, Tutu Desk Campaign and the Senegal Teacher Project. The club hopes to raise $12,000 to $14,000.

Supporting education is one of Rotary International’s seven main initiatives, which is why Rotary Club of Tucker has focused on education programs as one of its main projects, said Dison. The Rotary Club of Tucker supports education programs locally and abroad.

“Supporting our local schools and putting better educated people in the job pipeline benefits everyone, whether you are a student, a parent or even someone who doesn’t have children in the system. Locally, a strong school system and a well-educated work force makes Tucker more attractive to businesses looking to relocate,” Dison said.

The event begins at 8 a.m. with breakfast, followed by a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is served on the course during the game, with award ceremony and presentations after in the clubhouse.
